Great hack.
Loved all the new items and bosses. The music sounded strange but didn't bother me.
The teleporter spikes were only annoying the first time but I kinda liked them.
Can't rate 4.5 so 5 orbs it is. Really enjoyed it.

Absolutely amazing hack. 5/5 orbs easily.
This hack is loaded with custom stuff while still retaining the Super Metroid feel. I'm a big fan of the implemented logbook and hint system.
Every area feels unique and there are even sub-areas to them. Level design is very good. Plenty of paths to take and it never feels like a chore to traverse.
I loved the custom music. It fits the different areas very well.
Exploration is great. There is a good amount of secrets to find including a completely optional area.
This is now my favorite Super Metroid hack. Big thanks to the authors!

Really enjoyed the exploration. Level design was very good. A good part of it is sequence-breakable and optional. Got to the final boss before getting Space Jump and Screw Attack so I went back to explore some more. I never found Ice Beam on this first playthrough.
The music was excellent. That one track playing in the lower parts of the Caverns area was my favorite.

Eris is a fantastic and very immersive hack. DMantra absolutely nailed the atmosphere and visuals which makes this hack still very unique despite being from 2009/2012.

Decided to replay this after finishing Hyper Metroid quite a while ago and recently Ancient Chozo which also use Project Base physics and mechanics. Initially didn't like the changes but it was just matter of getting used to it. It actually felt pretty great. You can tell this was made with speedruns in mind as you pretty much blaze through the rooms.
It's something I would especially recommend to Fusion and Zero Mission fans who can't get into Super Metroid because of the physics and want something more fast-paced and obviously speedrunners.

Not a fan of halfhacks but that said this is a good hack.
My biggest issue was obviously that it's quite linear and that the route was same as vanilla which I get was the intention but I just prefer full hacks instead of halfhacks. Though it gets a little more open later.
I also hated the change to the diagonal bomb jump which was added in this version(1.1.0?). The amount of times I got launched through the room by accident was too much. I even fell down a door in Maridia once and had to go the whole way around because of it. Really hate that physics change.
Also that turtle on the giant statue in Maridia shouldn't take 25 Super Missiles to kill.
The graphics were gorgeous and among the best I've seen in a hack. I also liked the music changes.
On a second thought though, I think this deserves 5 Orbs. The few issues I had weren't that detrimental to my enjoyment and it absolutely is 5 orb worthy in the Vanilla+ category.

Ascent is a masterpiece and the best Metroid hack I have ever played. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to go for 100% straight away but missed one or two items in the last area that I couldn't find even after searching for a while. Maybe next time.
Anyway, level design, aesthetic, challenging but not too difficult puzzles, exploration. It does all of those right. I also loved all the new features/mechanics that were implemented.

One of the best Super Metroid hacks.
There was a noticable difficulty spike from the moment you reach the Wrecked Ship.
Maridia is intimidating at first and seems like it never ends but once you figure out where the elevators are you pretty much get to where you want easily.
Lower Norfair is probably the weakest point of the hack and where the difficulty was ramped up to unnecessary high levels at some points in my opinion.
However, Tourian made up for that and was fantastic.

I'd give it a 3.5/5.
I wasn't a huge fan of the symmetry of the main area especially since it was all CRE which made going from one side to the other feel repetitive at times.
The other areas were fine and the music was great. I really liked that anti-gravity mechanic even if it was only used for a couple rooms.
Still a very solid and fun hack and I recommend it.

Nice custom GFX.
Some cool ideas. I was really impressed with a section of Maridia in particular where the author implemented a very interesting mechanic.
Being able to maintain Speed Booster while wall jumping made for a couple interesting challenges for items.
I didn't really like the physics changes but I see why they were done and once I got Hi-Jump it wasn't that bad anymore.
Tourian was a bit of a disappointment. The escape in particular was almost the same as vanilla.

This hack is pretty much what I imagined most Metroid hacks would be when I first started getting into rom hacks in 2013. I was simply looking for "more Super Metroid but different layout". This hack delivered and is a very good vanilla-style Super Metroid hack.
I didn't have too much trouble finding all the major items and never really felt lost. However I did Wrecked Ship without Grapple which I believe I was supposed to have at that point. Props to the author for not blocking the player from going off the intended path.
Optional items were well hidden. I missed a good number of E-Tanks and ammo.
I fully recommend this hack.

The prequel to one of the best hacks: Escape II.
There is a lot of blue and variants of it which is expected.
The hack is extremely open. You can get lots of items very early which means you can also go wherever you want in any order. Like in Escape II, warp zones are in a lot of places so there is almost no backtracking involved.
The author really loves SpoSpo. Just like in Escape II you fight it 3 times, once during the escape. The escape itself is great too. I love long escape sequences. Crocomire's location also surprised me.
Difficulty is quite easy since you get many items early. There are no special techniques required except some elevator transition Blue Suit shenanigans for optional items, one of them is a major (but optional) one.
I'm giving this a strong 4/5. Not quite as good as Escape II but it is definitely worth playing and deserves more attention.

This is actually a really good hack.
Graphically it's quite nice. I like the tilesets.
Level design is pretty good. The hack is very non-linear, you get some major items really early so you can decide where you want to go first.
Tourian & Escape were also different which is always a plus.
I didn't like that the bomb timer got changed. Bombing is super slow in this hack so no IBJ.
The difficulty is a bit higher than Vanilla as some items are missable so you'll have to keep some mental notes.
There are no advanced techniques required except a short charge during the escape and a really hard short charge into speedball to get the E-Tank in the second screenshot but that one is optional.
I recommend this to everyone. It's one of the better hacks out there and it deserves more attention in my opinion.

Good hack that misses the 5 orb mark due to stupid design decisions at the end.
Mother Brain and Escape were stupid. Felt like those were designed to just piss off the player or to remember them that this is an Ing-Ing hack. Absolutely unnecessary to have conveyor belts at MB and a boss during the escape when you are probably out of missiles. I don't have a high tolerance for that stuff.
Other than that SM graphics were good and didn't feel out of place and I loved the Chrono Trigger music. Quite easy difficulty too outside of MB and Escape.

The sequel to "Super Metroid: Kill Time".
I enjoyed this hack a lot. The author made a full hack with a new layout this time and compared to his other hack Norfair and Maridia don't have annoying parts. These areas were pretty great this time.
Sequence breaking is also possible. Searching for Grapple ended up with me getting Space Jump early which was very nice.
The warp station gimmick while not used often was neat.

This is a really great hack.
The music was awesome and I loved the areas. The outer Research area around Ridley in particular was great because the rain and the music set the mood perfectly.
Many rooms were a bit large and there were some rooms that didn't serve much of a purpose but it didn't bother me much.
It was interesting that you could technically finish the game without ever getting Ice Beam and Space Jump.
The escape was meh. I don't like morph mazes with crumble blocks.

Use of custom music was good. I was suprised to hear music from Halo 3: ODST. Loved it.
Exploration was good, many spots where "Dabluens" were hidden.
I liked what was done with SpoSpo.
Now, the hack can basically be divided into two parts.
The right side of the map was the very good one. The left side was pretty much what I assume MST designed since it was very trolly with somewhat annoying Grapple sequences and the Shaktool/Speed Booster room which was just horrible. Figuring out the Crocomire boss fight took me a while too. Difficulty-wise and design-wise it felt so much different from the right side of the hack. Surprising considering So Little Garden had amazing level design.
The final boss made me laugh. Loved the edit.
No ending %. It shows the amount of money you collected. I got 650. Edit: What Sapphron said.
I recommend this hack. Despite the somewhat annoying left part of the hack this is still 4-orb worthy in my opinion.
The aesthetics are very nice. I love the background on the second screenshot.

Very good hack.
I really loved the graphics and how open it was.
You can get a lot of items early like Ice and Wave Beam which really helps considering the beams are a little weaker than usual. However you can also get to Draygon without Gravity (and Charge and Supers) which means you can't get out.
It's a fun hack and I recommend it.

I had a lot of fun playing this.
The graphics really give this hack a unique mood and the flowing water effect was also very nice.
New healthbar was cool.
Ridley was hard for me but I'm bad at fighting him and I also missed some Energy Tanks.

It probably wasn't a smart idea to play a Fusion hack when I haven't played Fusion since when it came out but this is a great hack!
Loved the non-linear level design. I wasn't sure at first if it was intended to beat the game after getting Speed Booster but I saw that there were also Screw Attack blocks. I guess you could go back and explore a bit more to get whatever item you missed, in my case Screw Attack or just go and beat the game.
The difficulty was a bit high for me. The bosses and some of those puzzles with crumble blocks for optional items in particular. Like I said though I'm used to Super Metroid and haven't played Fusion in ages so this is on me.
Annoying was the constant "Warning! No entry without authorization!" announcement. It didn't even stop during the credits!
That said, I'm pleasantly surprised that a non-linear Fusion hack exists and hope that more will follow. This hack is fun and I fully recommend it.

I really enjoyed this.
The decision theme was neat. Makes for some interesting level design. Though it didn't really impact where you could go. However it made me realize how awful non-fixed Space Jump feels without Hi-Jump.
The escape was pretty nice. Depending on which items you picked you can get through the obstacles using said item. For example if you picked Grapple you can skip a short Springball maze.
Difficulty was fairly easy. On par with vanilla. Short charging is required once in Tourian.
I recommend it. It's a short but enjoyable hack.

Another Cyclamen32 hack I enjoyed. The author made Oxide, Airy and Vino. I liked all of them.
Item progression is very different with most major items available after killing all bosses.
Reserve Tanks require Speedballing in mid-air which is hard. Though I only had issues with one. The rest aren't too bad.
A lot of backtracking for items near the end because there is no shortcut between some areas. That really dark area was a little annoying to go through.
I really loved the last area. It may be a bit bland but I like when it looks different than the original. It was cool. Wish the escape had a timer though.
Difficulty is very easy (with the exception of the Speedball challenges for Reserve Tanks.) not only thanks to your beam having an extremely-fast firing rate that makes you feel like you are Rambo.
If you finished Super Metroid you will be able to finish this game.
I fully recommend this hack, especially to new players.

This review is for version 2.0.
----Original Review (TL;DR I got softlocked and quit. Since I didn't give it a fair chance before I played through it completely and finished it. Skip to the new review below.)----
Alright, I did not finish this.
This hack has softlocks in the sense that you can access areas (without using advanced techniques so it's not really sequence breaking) you shouldn't be in without required items and a few unmorph permastucks in some cases. Seriously, did he not have any testers?
Entering the Mountains area means you can't go back in case you missed CHARGE BEAM (easy to find but can be missed) which you need for a certain boss since you don't have enough missiles to beat it.
Same area, some time after you get Power Bombs, you fall down a shaft with a morph tunnel on the left with a blue gate that wasn't properly blocked off I guess? If you go this way you will be softlocked. The author expects you to have Grapple Beam in that area so you can get Speed Booster to get out.
I quit there because I unfortunately saved at the Save Station in the Grapple-required area and did not feel like doing everything over again especially since there are likely even more places to get softlocked. Really made me angry.
I cannot recommend this hack in this state. You will possibly get softlocked or permastuck at some point because the author didn't polish/test the hack despite it being 2.0. It's a shame too because what I played up to that point was pretty decent.
EDIT: In response to Sapphron: Especially since it is an Exploration hack I expect that normal exploration without sequence breaking will not get the player softlocked. Even if you allow the player to enter areas that they shouldn't be in you should at least let the player go back.
A polished hack should be expected if it is already at version 2.0.
----Review after completion----
I finished it! To my surprise those two soflock situations mentioned above in my original review were the only major ones I found. There are a few unmorph permas and you can also get permastuck when getting the Thermo Suit if you grab it from a weird angle.
Anyway, this hack is really good. Exploration-wise it really is one of the best. Afaik this is the second biggest hack to date. Really impressive. Only Metroid Mission Rescue is bigger but I can't stand that one.
The areas are massive but pretty easy to navigate. I like that the map has icons that show you important locations where Grapple Blocks, regular gates, and Speed Boost blocks are.
Plenty of places to get items early if you know how to IBJ.
Lots of secrets. Items are hidden very well.
The custom graphics are nice.
Level design like was good and like I said easy to navigate and many secrets.
The game teases you with Super Missiles and Super blocks all the way through until you finally get them.
Some things I didn't like:
-Invisible Grapple blocks. Like in Hydellius they only exist to give X-Ray a purpose and even then sometimes they can't even be revealed with X-Ray or bombs. That goes for some items and secrets paths too.
-Speaking of Grapple blocks, don't make them only stay broken for a second. It's a slight annoyance.
-The solution for the Light Gate in the Hilly Swamps should have a hint. You basically only find out by randomly trying.
-The extreme backtracking one has to do for those endgame doors. That's my biggest critique for this hack. Really tedious even when you are fully loaded and practically invincible. Even more tedious when you just backtracked to get all those Super Missiles and have to go the same paths again.
-I wish there would have been a proper escape.
-Ridley was hard. I said the same in my Hydellius review. I'm bad at fighting him though so that didn't help.
The difficulty isn't too hard but I disagree with the author's statement that Hydellius is easier. I also believe the difficulty should be put under "Veteran".
Enemies hit hard and the exploration difficulty is much higher here.
If you are familiar with Super Metroid hacks and know some tricks this hack should be beatable.
I believe Short Charge was required once or twice.
Lost World is an impressive hack. The effort that went into this hack paid off. If you are fine with lenghty hacks, don't mind backtracking a lot and love exploration hacks this is worth checking out. Just be careful with those softlocks and unmorph permastucks I mentioned above in the early game.

Now this hack is definitely special. I remember playing this as one of my first hacks ever in 2013 but never finishing it until now.
Red Monkey, the author, claims on the forum thread that "Super metroid Phazon Hack is a full hack for people new to Super metroid hacks."
While this hack is not super difficult I would not recommend it to a new player. Exploration difficulty is much higher than in vanilla. You get hints via navigation rooms but you will likely still search a while for the next major item. It also took me a while to figure out that certain doors can be opened with Grapple Beam.
Beam upgrades are extremely weak unless you use different combinations (read: disable Dark Beam) which makes it bearable but enemies still feel like sponges. They also deal a lot of damage especially late game. As a result you often find yourself forced to use Super and Phazon missiles which aren't that easy to refill.
The last area felt a little disappointing for taking 9 items to access.
Also, the game froze 2 times on me in the Phazon Mines for some reason.
That said this is definitely a good and unique hack. You can see the effort that went into this with remade graphics and you really feel that this is a different world and not Zebes.
I do recommend this hack as it absolutely is worth playing. Despite weak upgrades and a disappointing final area, the rest is good enough to rate it 4-orbs.

This hack is pretty awesome especially for a hack that was made in 2005.
It's easy and on the short side but collecting items is just so fun in this hack because they are hidden everywhere.
Plasma Beam is a bit hard to find and Ice can be missed if you don't look hard enough but other than that I had no problem finding items.
The escape was another highlight of the hack I didn't expect. Really enjoyed it.

A good hack with nice graphics as well and also custom music.
Physics changes were okay but Space Jump was way too hectic.
Like Vismund and MetroidNerd said, the back and forth between areas after getting a major upgrade was annoying.
The final area looked nice but was way too short.
Level design was pretty good.
Difficulty: It's a pretty easy hack. Gold Torizo is annoying fighting normally but you can cheese it by attacking from where it can't reach you.
Recommended.

Just like the sequel hack, Super Metroid: Hidden, the author greatly changes item and path progression. Even more so in this hack than in Hidden. I believe at one point you could decide to go to Draygon, Phantoon or Ridley in any order which was pretty neat.
Difficulty-wise it's slightly harder than Vanilla but not by much with the exception of one major complaint which are the tough bosses. Kraid in particular was absurd.
The hack is worth playing for the unique progression/item order and well-done level design.

Solid vanilla-style hack with interesting item and path progression. Things are well hidden (hence the name of the hack) and often not where you expect them to be.
Like another user mentioned, it feels very old-school and reminds you of old-school hacks like Super Metroid Legacy.
Space Jump and Plasma Beam are missable items which is odd as usually major items are displayed on the map. I never found them. I saw unexplored parts on Tourian's map but never got there. I guess there were some secrets.
For some reason what I guess was supposed to be the acid-lowering Chozo statue in Lower Norfair didn't work for me unless I missed something. Edit: Found out it's because I didn't have Space Jump. Had to take an acid bath.
Lower Norfair's map not being viewable was slightly annoying.
Missile doors taking 10 missiles to open for some reason is a bit annoying at the start but the game throws missile expansions at you so it becomes a non-issue very fast.
Difficulty is a bit higher than vanilla.
All in all this is definitely a well-made hack. It isn't groundbreaking but if you're in the mood for a vanilla-style hack this is worth playing.

Very atmospheric and nice looking hack.
This was a fun hack. I liked the redone music. Graphically it's not really a looker and I found one permastuck in Maridia but the level design was well done. I had no issues finding any major item.
One thing I'm not sure why exactly it happened but Space Jump suddenly stopped working for me once I got to Lower Norfair and it never worked afterwards.
In any case this is worth playing.

Gotta go fast.
A great hack that is challenging without the need of mindlessly putting spikes anywhere.
I usually prefer easier hacks or at most Z-Factor and Super Zero Mission difficulty (which are difficult in their own way but don't require advanced techs) so my knowledge about advanced techniques was limited. I only knew how to perform IBJ, Mockball and short charging until recently when I played Containment Chamber and Contamination prior to this and learned some more different tricks. This hack even further improved my skills as a player thanks to difficult but fair challenges.
Would have given 5 Orbs but there were a few moments where I absolutely didn't know where to go. Draygon and especially Space Jump were hard to find in particular.
That said, I'm not *that* good at the game so finishing this was very satisfying.

This is a nice gateway hack recommended for everyone new to romhacks or fans of vanilla hacks.
It's alright.
Has a couple of flaws (Croc and half of Tourian/MB not being flipped, acid-lowering statue in LN and pre-Gravity Suit statue) but ultimately does what it's intended to do.
Had fun so I recommend it.

This is a short little hack where you hunt ghosts and get a couple power ups after defeating them. The final boss was funny.
Wasn't a fan of the physics changes but other than that it's an enjoyable quick-play.

Annoying maze in Norfair and garbage SpoSpo aside this was pretty neat for a halfhack. Some interesting ideas in here.
I really liked that there were a lot of items to find. Definitely made this more enjoyable than just having them in vanilla locations.
It's definitely not an easy hack. Requires some advanced techniques. It's mentioned in the readme file. Also there was a noticable difficulty spike after Phantoon.
Giving this 3 orbs. If you don't mind halfhacks it's even 4-orb worthy.

This is pretty much Bluestar but longer.
I like the concept but about halfway through the hack the linearity became a bit tedious and I didn't find the hack challenging either.
Regardless I still recommend checking this out if you don't mind linearity.

An improvement over the first one.
I liked that the player is given the choice to either go for the boss straight away or explore a bit.
Laughed at the TROM reference.
It's worth playing if you're bored but don't expect anything too special. I enjoyed it though.

Lacks polish. Some permastucks here and there and the escape was kind of a mess at the end.

Meh, it's okay.
The new items are neat and all but also not all that useful here.
Some changes I wasn't a fan of. Varia and Gravity not reducing damage was somewhat annoying. Space Jump being nerfed was awful.
I personally wasn't really a fan of the health system.
Movement also felt off at times when aiming up and running at the same time.
Some interesting stuff here but it's probably better suited for hacks that utilize the new items.

I kinda liked it.
Varia and Gravity aren't in the hack so there is a lot of heatrunning and suitless underwater going on.
Item progression was interesting.
I didn't like backtracking through Maridia especially since you have to go back through the Wrecked Ship to enter Maridia until you have Power Bombs.
Pre-Springball room was blocked by invisible solid tiles for some reason but you only miss out on a PB pack.
Either Baby skip or make sure you have full Reserve Tanks because the room after is heated which is mean.
Other than that it's not a bad halfhack and I say that as someone who is usually bored when playing halfhacks.

This was different and quite interesting for a halfhack.
It's probably possible to get permastuck at Mother Brain should you not have enough Missiles. The route I took didn't have Charge Beam but I thankfully had enough Missiles.
Palettes looked nice. Norfair in particular.

Not all that much different from vanilla. Rooms have been altered a bit but items are still in the same rooms. The route for 100% is the same with only a few minor changes. Not being able to go back through the Mochtroid room before Botwoon was slightly annoying for 100% since you are forced to go a longer way around.
There is also a sound-breaking bug at the baby causing the game to hardlock when trying to leave the room so I had to baby skip. 4th hack I encountered with that issue.
Still giving it 3 orbs despite being a halfhack without major changes since the changes weren't negatively impacting my enjoyment. I liked it.

Not bad considering this is a partial halfhack. I liked the darker Maridia.
Does have some issues mainly on the technical side. The item fanfare sometimes causes the music to stop playing and there is this sound-breaking bug once you enter a room in south east Lower Norfair which causes the game to hardlock when trying to leave the room. Thankfully that part is optional and you only miss a few items. Probably the third hack I've encountered with this bug.
Also, physics changes. I hate them. They become tolerable once you get Hi-Jump but they are still bad.
Despite the issues it was an enjoyable playthrough.

Refill should have been faster but it's a nice hack.
The hack felt very unique. I enjoyed it.
I rather liked this and didn't really have the issues that most people mentioned in the thread.
The hack suddenly going from being linear to having to backtrack didn't bother me much since the hack is rather small anyway. Neither did the Metroids in the suitless underwater area. I thought that part was pretty cool.
You can potentially get permastuck if you somehow get to Croc without Charge and Missiles.
Gold Torizo being immune to Charge was a bit weird and Draygon had a little too much health in my opinion.
Not a bad hack and it's worth checking out.

Pretty cool hack. Really felt like you were in an actual nightmare. Loved the new gfx, especially the final boss. The challenges were difficult but fun.
The final boss itself should have had less health or at least give the player more than just 1 missile.
I recommend it.

Interesting hack with a unique feel. Some issues with missable key items.
Ridley fight also has the issue that he doesn't come back until you lay a power bomb. Also has no proper ending after beating him.
Other than that the rooms were well designed for the most part and I liked the twin E-tanks.
Worth a playthrough.

There is little reason to play/use this when Project Base exists unless you really dislike PB's warmer colors or the vanilla SM controls. Good work regardless.

Very interesting hack.
First off, I really liked the new HUD (What's with those screenshots up there showing something different? Edit: Fixed now.), changed beams and graphics. QoL features like quickbombing were appreciated. Item progression was nice though I'm not sure if I was supposed to IBJ (I wasn't.) (in a spot that expected me to have Space Jump.) to get towards Charge Beam which was the only way I saw to progress. Space Jump was also near that so I'm not sure what the intended path was.
The game felt a bit halfhacky especially in the beginning. Many rooms were basically makeovers with door connections being different and a few Norfair and Maridia rooms were moved to Brinstar. Quite a bit of completely new rooms though so it wasn't too bad.
Escape was disappointing. No Mother Brain so after Ridley you just get a timer and backtrack to the ship the same route you came from which isn't exciting. Not a fan of escapes like that.
There were also a few graphical issues in some rooms and the map breaking in one particular situation. Also the music always reset after picking up an item.
Still, it's a fun hack and I recommend it.

This is a pretty solid hack.
The reason I can't give this 4 orbs is mainly lack of polish and some things not being obvious enough. Scrolling errors and some random solid and air tiles in random places.
You have to find 4 switches to open the entrance to Tourian. However they don't look like switches. They look more like those elevator stands. I didn't realize you have to shoot them with Super Missiles to activate them. Nothing suggests that. Because of that I had to backtrack through all areas at the end which was really annoying. Maybe I was just dumb but it should have been more obvious in my opinion.
The map was almost useless and confused me a few times especially when it broke occasionally.
Other than that I enjoyed this hack. Level design was nice and I liked what was done with the bosses. Difficulty is a bit higher than Vanilla but not by much.
Worth a playthrough.

Heavy savestate usage is recommended (unless you don't value your free time) despite available save stations. It took me like 4-5 hours to beat this hack with savestates.
1 HP throughout the entire game which is filled with deathtraps. You also fight all bosses with 1 HP.
The challenges are actually extremely well done. You can tell a lot of thought and effort went into it.
I originally wanted to give this 2 orbs but honestly if you play it with savestates it's bearable and also kinda fun. The tilesets also look really nice. It's a high quality challenge hack. Can't give 4 orbs though since the difficulty was frustrating at times.
Recommended if you have the patience and precision. I'd even say it's worth checking out just to see the creative challenges.

This hack is ok.
Didn't really like that Morph Ball and Bombs were later than usual. Generally not a fan of that. Feels very restrictive. Also there was a bit too much backtracking for my liking.
Other than that there's not much to say what's not already in the description. Tourian was a little annoying and the escape was disappointing.
I guess it's something to play if you're bored but this was more of a weak 3 out of 5 than a strong 3 out of 5.

This hack feels a bit like a 3/4 hack. The author took inspiration from the original layout.
The area layouts are roughly the same as the original but not quite. Most rooms feel completely different but you can often tell that those were modified original ones.
There are some interesting puzzles in this hack but some are quite annoying due to the use of invisible things that push you away.
Also, the room pre-Draygon may break the sound upon entry. If that happens, the game will freeze when trying to leave the room. Similar thing happened in "Super Metroid: Full Run". To prevent that I shot the beam while entering the room which broke the sound somewhat but it didn't freeze. I don't know the cause.
It's not a bad hack but there are some annoying parts especially later in Norfair and Maridia.
Worth a playthrough if you're bored.

As someone who is not a big fan of halfhacks this one is pretty decent.
Very interesting boss and item order. Crocomire and SpoSpo locations were really surprising.
There isn't that much to criticize other than well... that it's a halfhack and that Speed Booster was in a location that didn't even cross my mind until I got back to it and the solution to get it isn't that obvious at first.
The game isn't particularly difficult other than finding Speed Booster and some optional Shinespark/Blue Suit challenges. You'll likely find yourself with more Energy Tanks than you will ever need as they get basically thrown at you.
I recommend it.

This was a fun hack.
Exploration was good. New suits are a neat concept. Custom music was cool.
It lacked a bit of polish though. Map tiles aren't correct in many spots and Draygon didn't appear (unless this was on purpose?).
Still, it's a good hack and I recommend it.

I never played SM: Life so this felt new for me. This hack is a good one but with a few flaws.
The good:
-Exploration is great with many secrets.
-Sequence breaking is very possible. This is a TROM hack so Supers are an endgame item but you can get Supers early thanks to IBJ which means you can also get Space Jump early for example.
-Level design is good.
-New graphics
-Tube doors are nice.
-Item progession
Now some negatives:
-The landing site's first room state needs a seizure warning. That flashing hurts the eyes.
-The tubes weren't properly closed. You can jump out of them through the top sometimes. Also you could morph through one tube that was closed with a door you were supposed to open by using Plasma Beam to kill the surrounding Pirates.
-Gravity Suit was in an odd spot. Kinda missable if you don't remember that particular spot.
-Blocks respawn to fast. Especially annoying with those Grapple blocks. Permastuck potential.
-I wish the missile refill also got new graphics. Inconsistency.
-Some parts of Maridia were so graphically busy that those spikes which also aren't that visible are hard to see. They sometimes blend in.
-Extreme lag when opening the map in Tourian and in escape.
-Mother Brain's room looks a bit messy and like it was worked on but abandoned halfway through.
-"Escape Immediatelx" typo (nitpicking)
-The escape timer glitched out and became unreadable.
-I love long escapes but this was just the route from Ridley's room to the ship without the escape music so it was anticlimatic.
Also there was a Metroid stuck in the floor in Tourian so I had to use Power Bombs. Not sure if that was on purpose.
It definitely felt a bit unpolished and like a test bed for Hydellius. It would have been a 4-orb hack with more polish.
Still, this hack is fun to play despite the negatives and I do recommend playing it. 3 orbs.

It's honestly not that bad when using savestates. You don't have to be "really insane" to pass this hack. You just need quick reflexes when mid-air morphing and crumble jumping and also some precision when wall jumping.
The crumble jumping is the hardest part of this hack but not insanely hard.
The part after getting Springball was actually quite enjoyable.

That said I enjoyed this hack, especially because the SOTN tiles give this hack such a different feel. I really wish someone made a full hack with this tileset.

Small hack with some broken scrolling in the first few rooms and gibberish when picking up items. I liked the colorful look of the hack, custom music and the custom HUD though. Dark Visor was a cool feature. Worth a playthrough.
This review is about the "Ultimate" version which is downloadable in the forum thread.
Honestly this hack is a bit weird because it actually felt unfinished/rushed and with a lack of polish. The area around Ridley and the final area in particular.
The physics took a bit of time to get used to but it was whatever. IBJ was probably possible but the bomb timer was changed.
The Twin Gate gimmick is the best and the worst thing in this hack at the same time. The backtracking becomes tedious and at the end I just wanted the game to be over. I like the idea but the world was too big for that.
I did like the look of the different areas.
Love the tube doors.
Invisible Grapple blocks are absolutely stupid. Were they just there to give X-Ray a purpose? Still stupid.
Forced damage. Why do I have to tank spikes and acid to proceed? Forced damage is only fine in a heatrun or for optional items.
Ridley is really hard if you don't have enough missiles though I'm also bad at fighting him.
Why did the final area have Maridia music? Weird choice.
The final area... why does the player have to fight these Ninja Pirates that take a million shots to kill? Also why do they look so ugly?
The final boss fight... why can the player skip it when the objective of the mission is to take the serum and the final boss clearly has it?
Why is there no escape timer?
The final area felt honestly rushed and messy. I guess the author lost motivation and just wanted to get it over with?
Really baffling stuff. Also some backgrounds look really bad and lazily done while some look really nice.
Difficulty is hard at times but not too bad.
I almost want to give this 2 orbs but I wasn't really in a good mood anyway so that kinda affected my experience. The overall package makes this a 3-orb hack.
It's worth checking out and also quite fun but there are some questionable design choices and searching for twin gates becomes tedious after a while.
I cautiously recommend it but also say you should play Lost World or Phazon Hack instead if you want a completely new world.

It's a bit risky to download a hack that has no description, no detailed reviews and a screenshot of Red Crateria. It meets many requirements to be absolutely awful. Surprisingly it is actually pretty decent.
Items are hidden well. The author likes putting fake orbs in a room with the item hidden somewhere else in that room.
I spent probably an hour looking for Grapple and Wave Beam wondering where I missed them. Not finding Grapple was my fault. Wave could be missed as it was behind 1 Power Bomb tile. It's a required item so it should have been more obvious in my opinion.
Many areas are a bit darker. I like how it looks. It gives areas a different feel.
The bomb jump timer was changed which was slightly annoying.
Enemies are tougher which is very noticable in the beginning.
The most interesting part was probably Lower Norfair. It's not what you would expect.
Difficulty-wise it's harder than Vanilla. Not by much. Short Charge is required for a couple of optional items.
I recommend it. Red Crateria looks awful but for a hack that was made in 2010 it does things quite well.

This was the first hack I ever played about 6 years ago but I never finished it until today.
The hack is very open-ended and it's possible to miss a lot of items. I didn't find Ice Beam, Spazer and Screw Attack. Also speaking of beams I found them all extremely weak with the exception of Grapple. I believe this was done on purpose for balance reasons so different beam combinations work better but it wasn't balanced very well in my view.
I wasn't much of a fan of the level design. Many rooms felt a bit annoying to traverse and I wasn't very fond of having to do the Deep Ice -> Surface sewers -> Steamfair -> Subterrane route just to backtrack to the Surface every time. I felt there should have been a shortcut unless I have missed it.
I did however like the lore and the general open-ended nature of the hack.
All in all it's mostly enjoyable with some annoying parts. Worth a try.

I really didn't like this hack.
The biggest issue is that it's simply not fun to navigate through the rooms because they were changed so that there is a lot of garbage in the way. So many rooms become mini-mazes or obstacle courses. I don't have the patience for that anymore. Doesn't help that there are a LOT of slope errors that halt your movement.
Also lots of permastucks if you don't have enough ammo.
Red Crateria usually isn't an issue if the hack is fun to play but in this hack it really annoyed me.
Mini map wasn't changed so it looks like there is more to a room than there actually is.

Had to think whether to give this 2 or 3 orbs but ultimately decided for 2.
It's not a bad hack at all but it also doesn't change much other than route, item progression and some altered tile arrangements.
Speaking of tiles, there was some very noticable bad tiling. I also didn't like the new look for some of the rooms.
Now the really annoying part was the required short charging. I'm not good at charging at short distances so this gave me some trouble.
Only recommended if you are fine with halfhacks and are good at short charging.

Speaking of tiles, there was some very noticable bad tiling. I also didn't like the new look for some of the rooms.
Now the really annoying part was the required short charging. I'm not good at charging at short distances so this gave me some trouble.

The hack is pretty ok (for Pedro's standards) until you get to Lower Norfair. You pretty much need to have 13 E-Tanks, 5 (yes, 5) Reserve Tanks, 50 Supers and 50 PB's to survive the run through full acid rooms before Ridley. Thankfully there's an Energy refill in Ridley's room so it's an easy fight.
First Power Bomb is in a room you usually don't go to.
Other than that it's your typical pedro123 halfhack.

For a jailsonmendes hack it's honestly not complete garbage. Draygon dealing 4 tank damage for some reason and Gravity being in a dumb spot aside it wasn't all that annoying.
Not sure what's up with the completion time. Also I didn't find Spazer.

One of the most linear hacks I've played.
Nothing here that warrants a playthrough.

It's an interesting idea but doesn't really change the way you play Super Metroid (unless you give yourself the challenge to not kill anything.)
I think this would have been better if it wasn't just "walk past the boss". Maybe penalize the player for killing stuff.
The "destroy orbs to skip boss" idea would probably be interesting in a hack that isn't just essentially vanilla Super Metroid.

Honestly this hack is not as bad as the review above makes you believe. Then again, I played Normal mode and not Insane.
Anyway, this could have been a pretty good halfhack with some changes.
I liked the palettes and most of the room changes in general. It had a couple nice ideas like the way you get Charge Beam and a particular room in Maridia.
Unfortunately there are a couple flaws that make this not as enjoyable as it should be.
First off, there is a lot of backtracking that sends you across Zebes after a major item. This is mostly due to Super and PB doors blocking off stuff so you have to go back to those and check if those lead to progress.
Also, SPIKES!!! The author put a lot of spikes in this hack. It's not excessive but annoying enough that you notice. Even Ridley's room has many of them.
Then, Lower Norfair and Tourian. Respawning enemies are bad. Really bad.
Enemies were buffed but that was only really an issue until you got Charge which is really useful here.
It's a bit unfortunate because this hack had potential which is not something I see that often in halfhacks.
I only recommend this if you really like halfhacks.

Not that bad for being one of Pedro's halfhacks.
Has a permastuck if you go towards Bomb Torizo without Springball which is in a really stupid place you won't think of at first.
You can't walljump initially but it doesn't matter because the game throws endgame items (including Space Jump which is near the place in the screenshot) at you very early so nothing really challenges you except for Ridley who has been buffed.
Hack didn't annoy me so 2 orbs.

Had to think about whether to give this 1 or 2 orbs. I usually reserve 1-orb ratings for low-effort hacks, unfinished or broken stuff or hacks that just frustrate me. This barely makes the 2-orb mark. Hated the forced damage sections, especially in the escape.
Other than that this is just a halfhack with more spikes, lava, a couple item placement changes, enemies that hit harder and even some Red Crateria.
Also Tourian was really annoying with those Metroids that take a lot of shots to freeze them.
Didn't enjoy it and I recommend to play something else.

The unheadered and the headered versions are two different hacks.
The unheadered version is in Lower Norfair. It's more difficult with items hidden in dumb spots and more spikes. Ridley's room has crumble blocks and acid. You have to backtrack to the refill stations quite often for ammo.
The headered version is the one in the screenshots and the one that is more fun.
If you want to play this, pick the headered one. It's not bad.

I liked that you got the item name and location of the next item every time you picked up a major item.
Example: WWB - 07 for Wrecked Ship Wave Beam which was the seventh major item.
The item locations itself however were often pretty dumb. Grapple, Screw and Ice were all above the screen which was slightly annoying and getting Hi-Jump was pretty dumb as well. Also some Supers and PB's were hidden in very random places. There were 2 Supers, 1 in Maridia and 1 in Norfair which I had no idea how to get.
Speaking of Norfair, having to kill 3 Namihe in the Lava Dive room to access Lower Norfair was mean considering it requires Kagoing so you can kill them with Screw Attack from inside which I didn't know was possible. I always thought they were indestructible. Good to know.
Short charging is required in two spots if I remember correctly.
The hack has an interesting concept but it's ultimately only a halfhack with added items, changed item locations and bad palettes.
Recommended if you're bored and don't mind halfhacks. Just don't expect something special.

Not a terrible halfhack but has some flaws.
Worst thing about this hack is the back and forth across the map and that you have to tank some forced lava damage until you get Gravity. The underwater part at the beginning wasn't all that bad to me.
Physics changes were meh. Never a fan of that. Also enemy placement is bad at times.
You can go to Tourian without enough E-Tanks and ammo so watch out or you'll be stuck. Also the author is the first person besides MetroidMST who calls it "Tourain".

I didn't really enjoy this hack much. It had some interesting ideas but many rooms were really badly designed. Brinstar and Norfair in particular had a couple really dumb rooms.
It wasn't really clear where I had to go after getting Grapple. I did a couple heatruns and gate glitches to get Varia and Speed Booster. Not sure if that was intended.
The item locations were quite interesting but Space Jump requires you to do a speedball that I would almost consider too hard for most. It's seemingly not required but fighting Ridley without it is even more bullshit than it already is. The fight would have been bearable if it didn't have spikes hanging around in mid-air and in the acid. That coupled with his damage output was absurd.
Crocomire is definitely a low point of this hack. Absolutely stupid.
The palettes were so so. I found many of them quite bad looking.
There was a mini-boss rush which was neat.
The ending was abrupt which was disappointing.
Judging by the divisive ratings this seems to be a hack you either love or hate.

I think I gave this hack enough of a chance. I tried really hard to like it but I can't.
Huge props to the author for the effort to create such a huge world but I had a lot of issues with it.
Now, I was playing the normal version first but enemies being bullet sponges and hitting so hard plus reading some stuff on the forum made me restart on Easy mode.
Anyway, first off, the hack is absolutely hideous. I don't think I have ever seen a worse looking hack than this. That makes exploring already a huge turn off.
Another thing I absolutely hate is when the hack restricts the player movement just because the author designed the game around not being able to be sequence broken.
You get morphlocked in morph passages which means you can't unmorph even if you had the space for it. You can't mockball (There's an item combining speedball with springball) and can only walljump in certain places once you have an item according to the manual. Oh and you can't IBJ. Reminded me a lot of Redesign and why I can't stand that hack. Not being able to walljump in general is fine. Being restricted to where you can and where not is just a way to prevent the player from breaking your hack.
Then, what is this obsession with mazes? There was that suitless underwater maze which was absolutely obnoxious and made me want to quit immediately. Then later, in Wadaria there was a morph maze on a timer with rising water. Hack authors need to stop putting those into a hack. Nobody likes those. Speaking of Wadaria, custom music (I wasn't a fan of that particular track) and the Fusion background felt jarring.
What eventually made me stop playing was the "20 Rachetas" requirement to open a door. You already only get 1 missile per item pickup (I hope you like farming enemies for ammo!) and now you are turning the game into a collectathon and making me explore those hideous looking areas all over again for enough missiles to proceed? That is ridiculous, especially considering stuff is literally hidden behind non-suspicious tiles. Again, you are forcing the player to play the way you intended.
Also, I noticed that the demo of the author's next hack, Blackhawk Indi, has this collectathon design as well. I really hope they reconsider that.
This hack is a chore to play and feels like it tries to be as unfun as possible at times and actively prevents the player from sequence breaking. You are at the whim of the author.
Rating it 2-orbs because I like the concept and there was a lot of effort put into this. The navigation/hint room in particular was a good idea. I also liked the idea of having a doorcap for every weapon. Reading the manual is required to understand sector switches, zones and doorcap colors.
Do not play this unless you are out of hacks to play. Even then, you need to be very tolerant of what this hack throws at you.

Changed vulnerabilities for bosses and a couple enemies. Really made no sense.
Phantoon and Crocomire were invisible.
Entering Terminator room crashes the game.
I had a lot of issues with the required short distance short charging because I'm bad at it.
Unless I missed something it was required to Crystal Flash to progress in Maridia and so was an Ice clip to get to Botwoon.
Also bomb jumping felt off. I couldn't do the regular IBJ after the fourth or fifth bomb so I had to learn how to 3 bomb jump. I guess it was worth for that?
Still, I really didn't like this hack and I don't recommend it.

I have no idea how this is supposed to be beatable when there is no way to progress after getting Supers in Norfair.
First screenshot implies you are supposed to have Grapple at that point. It's in Maridia which you can't really get back into since you can't go up the Crab Hole. Even then you need Morph to get Grapple. Morph is at the Landing Site blocked by Grapple blocks. Getting there from the other side is also not possible since you can't get there.
So unless I'm really dumb and missed something obvious (unlikely since I checked in SMILE) this hack is not beatable.
I'm just assuming the author (Pedro) didn't really think when making this hack which is also evident by the amount of permastucks.
Avoid.
Edit: I stand corrected by Sapphron. Checked in SMILE again and yes, I was just blind. *shrug*

You need to be almost perfect during the escape to make it in 69 seconds. I barely made it with less than 1 second left after a lot of attempts. Even had to moonfall once to save time. I also used save states at two times during the escape. If you have about 40 seconds left at climb it's possible.
Hack is garbage though so no need to play it.

This hack is hilariously stupid.
You have to go through Tourian and fight MB three (!) times. Once in the early game (see first screenshot), then after you do everything else and then AGAIN because the required item to finish the game is in the room after the place where the exit (white orb that ends the game) is and you can't go back to the previous room.
After defeating MB you get a 100 minute (or 99:99:99 I forgot) timer which you can remove via saving and reloading but you shouldn't do that since you need Hyper Beam to defeat Ridley who you fight against without suits (hence the required Crystal Flash) fast enough without dying.
The funny thing though is you could reset the timer whenever you want since you can go back to Tourian/MB at any time. It's so dumb.
Also, you don't even need to visit Maridia.
I don't recommend it.

After you collect as many E-Tanks as you can find you have to heatrun all the way to Ridley and fight him in a heated room without suits.

I really didn't like this one.
Only having 99 health is fine for something that strives to be a challenge hack but the garbage HUD which doesn't allow beam stacking and completely getting rid of every item except for major ones + 1 extra Super Missile pack in the Wrecked Ship is making this a very unfun game.
Also the walljump physics are bad.
Giving it 1-orb because it was really not fun playing this, also the issue Sapphron mentioned which happened to me as well but fortunately I didn't save after leaving the room.

What was the point of this hack? It's a bland low-effort halfhack with barely any changes other than bad palettes, increased enemy health (Ridley was obnoxious) and a few extra Speed Booster and Grapple Blocks in a few spots for no reason.
The author learned absolutely nothing from other hacks and even less from his own hacks. It's almost like he doesn't even know they exist. Also, the excuse that beginners need the original layout to have fun is dumb. I'd wager that most people actually get interested in SM hacks for new experiences. At least that was my reason to get into Metroid hacks. Not to play the same old.
Anyway, this hack is bad. Just like all of the author's hacks."
Keep in mind that Juan Dennys, crimsonsunbird, jailsonmendes and pedro123 are all the same person (that's what his profile signature used to say).
Then count the combined number of hacks of him that have been released in a short time. Says it all.

If you fail at it the first time, which you will, you can pretty much reload the game because you won't have enough time. Manage to get through it? Cool, hope you like this short crumble bridge. Falling down means you'll have to redo the speedball part and at that point you can just reload because you don't have the time.

First off, the game is really boring. The game almost plays itself since there is one extremely linear path and there are conveyor belts everywhere. You essentially hold forward until you get to the next boss. Speaking of bosses they are pretty much dead already, like Sapphron said.
I was originally going to give this 2 orbs but what happened was that after you get your health drained by the baby the sound breaks and the game freezes when you try to go to the next room (Snes9x 1.60 using the unheadered version). Same thing happened in a playthrough I found on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwblWB31ka8 at the end. It didn't happen to him in his second video so I'm not sure what he did.
Anyway, the game essentially forced me to learn the Baby Skip. I guess that was the highlight of this hack.
I don't recommend this.
