Description
This is my first hack ever!
This is a very short, spoof hack.
I noticed in many playtroughs of bad halfhacks that they tend to overuse CRE tiles (if you don't know, CRE graphics are the graphics used in every area, like doors, save stations, spikes, shot blocks, crumble blocks... etc).
Now I decided to take that to the extreme.
I present to you: Super Metroid CRE.
Every tile and every enemy uses CRE graphics. This guarantees an interesting experience.
Enjoy!

This was very fun and creative. Enemy resprites look good and the creative use of CRE tiles is great as well!

It is very nice and the change of the few bosses is nice, but it is very short.

This hack is kinda fun, and the reimaginings of enemies and bosses using CRE tiles are pretty creative, but nothing else stands out too much. The level flow is pretty good, but I do still have some issues.

The general blockiness of the CRE can be a bit cumbersome to navigate at times. I noticed there were attempts at using roomstates to permanently clear out obstacles, but they were iffy in how often they stayed broken, leading to some unnecessary and annoying backtracking (I'm looking at you, shinespark room). While the hack's use of CRE tiles is creative, it can still get samey at times, and the overabundance of space pirates before you get Spazer, combined with their low drop rates, is also annoying. There's also a lot of vertical door transitions without caps, which can be annoying since you can easily fall right back through them if you didn't jump correctly.

With some polish, I could see this hack earning 4 orbs, but for now, 3 is as much as I can give it.

Fun little quickplay; the CRE enemies were foreboding and eerie. It's odd how some of them came out looking legitimately really good? Standouts include the platform guys, the Rios, and the flat things that jump up/sway back down. Enemy placement was a little iffy in the room outside speed; having to deal with flying enemies and grapple at once was difficult. A few other rooms seemed like they had too many; I found myself ignoring the enemies and just tanking the damage.
Unconventional CRE is a solid 8/10; recommended.

I mean, the map is shaped like a CRE block. 5 stars for that alone, man.
The block art is super well done and same with the enemies. Pretty short but it does what it does really well. There are a couple secrets (one required)that I had a really hard time finding the answer to due to a misleading block but eventually found it.
Finished.

A fun spoof hack that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Everything is made of CRE -- common tiles shared from every room in SM - Things like doors, gates, breakable blocks. Enemies and even the map are shaped like CRE.

It's good, but not fantastic. I have some gripes:
- The Trippers before bomb torizo are often clipped through due to ceiling slopes above them.
- Shutters are often clipped through by taking damage from viola and geemers.
- Room before speedbooster has Rio that can creep up into the top right corner of the room. This makes them difficult to kill when you have projectiles that despawn offscreen.

Really impressive and creative for a first time hack and judging by some of the author's submissions to ROTM, looks like another talented hacker has arrived. It was fun figuring out the corresponding enemy resprites, really well done. I also liked how the map was perfectly symmetrical; made finding 100% pretty easy to pull off first time through once it dawns on you. The map also kinda reminded me of level 9 of Zelda 1. Really nice selection of the upgrades as well considering the size of it. Looking forward to whatever that beauty is Tundain is working on in ROTM and the forum. Cough, KPF sucks.

Recommend highly

Simple short and fun. It's nothing special and the scope isn't impressive but it's certainly fun. Thanks for the hack.

(Segmented time)

Not too many spoof hacks exist in the modern era - this stands above the rest due to the amount of creativity and time put into this hack. The QoL changes allow for the player to play at their own pace - fast or slow. This hack was a good time and is worth an hour of your time.

It was pretty good. I had a really hard time with the boss, I actually slowed it down 50% in order to beat it. Perhaps if I had collected that other energy tank I could have done it, idk, but anyway, it's good.

Save states used. As always criticism comes from a place of respect.

I really enjoyed this playthtough. Initially I was worried the whole hack would have the same look as the first area but Tundain definitely shakes things up in the second half.

Level layout and design is very well constructed. There are Eris levels of mystery and discovery but nothing aggravating. Item progression is fair.

As always I enjoyed the QOL inclusions to the physics. Never "necessary" but always appreciated. Going the extra mile and offering that last layer of polish that shows the author cares.

Commitment to a concept and remaining consistent is probably the strongest part of the hack. Tundain went all in for this. Even the enemies were based off CRE tiles.

Do I think aesthetically this is as enjoyable as Alliance or Familiar? No, but it's an excellent showcase of someone creating art within the confines of self-imposed limits and it succeeds at that 100%. I went into this skeptically and was impressed by how good somebody could make a hack look using only CRE pieces. The bosses were delightful abominations to behold.

this hack is decent but I liked the enemy resprites though, very unique and different. I didn't like the Ascent-style physics but they aren't that bad since the hack is short enough for the physics to not be problematic

No completion stats.
I played this a while back but wanted to add a review since I just played 2 and 3. This was a pretty solid hack especially for a first submission, it's got a great sense of humor, but the gameplay is also there. If you are looking for a shorter hack that will definitely make you laugh, this is a good candidate.

I don't remember my completion stats, but I play stuff casually, so am not typically using expert skills.

Looks better than it has any right to, and I got a good laugh out of the enemy sprites made out of various CRE blocks.

Sensible map layout and rooms that are fun to play and explore. Doesn't last very long but is definitely worth the short time to play if you're looking for some thing short. I particularly liked the grapple beam changes. I'm not sure exactly what they were but they made grapple a bit more fun and pleasant to use.
