Honorable Mention: Super Metroid Legacy

Granted, I was probably a bit late to the very early hacks that had been since invented for years before I joined Metroid 2002, much less stuck around to aid in the creation of Metroid Construction. I remember getting into things such as T-Metroid, Limit, Grapple, Reverse, and Searching For Items, which other hackers may very well quote as some of the greatest inspirations of their time (I know I certainly enjoyed SFI and Grapple.) But my own personal favorite old time hack classic? Super Metroid Legacy. Probably one of the earliest full hacks ever (don't quote me on this,) Legacy created a brand new experience of exploration and item-finding from entirely vanilla tilesets, going ahead of its time with a completely new planet design that set it apart from all of its half-hack brothers. The item order and area visitation schedule very closely matched that of the original Super Metroid but at the same time went ahead to design certain puzzles or item rooms to spec with the author's desire to create an alien planet, one not-so-familiar Zebes that we all know and love. I guess I don't have too much more to say this year than I did last year, but even if Banana Oyaji's great work cannot match the scope of a project such as Redesign, it still deserves my love and adoration for being an excellent Super Metroid hack. Play it today if you haven't yet!

I hope you enjoyed this year's TopHacks production, fellow Metconstians! I look forward to your nominations next year! Until then, keep on hacking, Metconst!
