Best Quick Play 2019
Award
Winner: Metroid: The Blue Plague by Nodever2
The Blue Plague, one of the three Blue Contest hacks here, is a really good short play. It's decently long without overstaying its welcome, has some beautiful aesthetics, and isn't super difficult. I'd choose this over So Little Piracy due to the left area being rather difficult, maybe too much so for a contest hack.

The Blue Plague is one of the best little hacks ever put together. It flows nicely and has some great little things in it, and then it's done.
- MetroidMst

I chose The Blue Plague among the available candidate hacks but consider Metroid Fusion: Evilution to be the true winner of this award, given that aspects I'd deem conductive towards the Quick Play award category being:
+ a high density of fun enjoyable moments and exhilarating surprises
+ a safe relatively short expected game completion time
+ fast, diverse movement involvement and fast eventful progression pace by inducing a sense of urge or rush in the player, when it leads to a heightened level of attention & excitement (e.g. by use of music suitable for racing themes, countdown timers, or energy drain across time)

And that I'd deem the following (consequently) as deterring in this regard:
- progression loss risking, likely encountered game segments (in form of setbacks as with softlocks, crashes, or deaths due to execution difficulty, especially in case of a lack of saves when game design warrants their use)
- severe gameplay inhibiting bugs such as loud noise and seizure or headache risking visuals
- obscure, unrecognizably hidden, confusing, or otherwise patient stagnant thinking time requiring solution conditions to game progression points
- boring uninspired, to repetitive situations leading design (such as risking a lot of boring monotonic backtracking, which non-linearity of a game can lead to)
