Winner: Super Zero Mission by SBniconico
The meat of a game is obviously how it plays. How intuitive or innovative it is often denotes how well a game is received. Super Metroid is often heralded as one of the greatest masterpieces of the SNES era, and even today many lay claim to it being one of the best games made. Making a hack off of the original will already have a great base to build off of. So how do you make it better? Take a gander at Super Zero Mission, and you'll get the idea.

SZM has taken ideas from other Metroid games, mostly Zero Mission not surprisingly, and added them into the Super Metroid engine. Speed Booster has been changed to be much more like Zero Mission. There are also segments where a whole layer of tiles will completely disappear so you can see Samus move "behind" it. More than that is how the hack is designed to support the new gameplay mechanics. There is a lot of thought that went into this hack, which becomes apparent the further you delve into it. Gold Torizo also has one of the most unexpected gameplay tweaks done during the fight you will come across. Everything also feels natural, which when adding in new mechanics is not an easy feat to achieve.
