I will upload the rest of my footage later, but I still wanted to say that this is a really standout and fun hack to me. I was wall jumping plenty which had me slightly worried that I was playing "wrong", but the main ideas of survival are still there. One of the few times in recent memory where saves feel so important in a Metroid game. They are common enough, but need to be sought out and would be regrettable to neglect saving as bosses can be fairly unexpected. The survival concept is just so well done and fits the character so well that it feels like a pretty legit Metroid concept vs just being another Metroid game.

Snowball is a goofy name for a planet though.

I do not know why I like this hack so much, but I keep coming back to it. It being a fusion hack is a plus as I simply enjoy just how it plays and there is a lot of novelty to Fusion being rearranged.

I do think the balance is just right for me, missiles are strong enough early to make them useful against the mid game Fusion enemies you are hit with and most bosses are fun and well tuned outside of Nettori just being lame from the layout and the Omega Metroid just feeling off to fight. Another point in the favor of missiles is how they are recovered completely from picking up a tank. I will always enjoy that design of missiles actually being all around useful instead of just dedicated for boss spam.

I like the world design as well, but it definitely feels smaller now that I have played the hack a few times. It does well in presenting obstacles that you need to hunt for abilities to actually pass, but you truly only need so many powers to get what you need. I was trying to avoid some of the easy early upgrades and was still hit with the requirement of High Jump eventually.

I think my favorite area has to be the fire one. The enemies are fairly strong, you have that little gimmick SA-X chase, and you can mess around in the heat rooms if you are brave enough and pickup the Wide Beam early which teases at Ridley being in the area. That message hyped me up to fight the dude even though Ridley is optional.

I will almost definitely come back to this hack again for a replay and I do hope to see some Fusion hacks in the future, whenever that will become easier to do.

Pretty easygoing and fun hack. I like the music and the progression is fun, but it is a little quick at times where you will get so many powers all at once like after beating Spore Spawn. I do not know how close I was to 100%, I took a look and could not find any more pickups since the hack cuts Grapple Beam and X-Ray Scope. Not like you need them though, you will find plenty of items at a good clip if you put in the effort.

The only bug I had was being able to walk back to my ship which triggered the ending of the game. I only found this after beating the game for the first time so I do not know what allowed this glitch to happen. I do find the plot sort of interesting though, I am definitely on board for the next hack.

The design is not terribly interesting when it gets to the water and fire areas respectively, but I do enjoy the early game a lot. Also the addition of those friendly Space Pirate looking guys is so awesome. I loved when they had their own space capsule and had apparently fixed my ship, what cool dudes.
GRAVITY - Sylux's Crusade by Roebloz [MZM Exploration], rated by justanothermetroid on Jul 04, 2024 (Star Star Star Star Star )

I really enjoyed this hack, though I did find it sort of awkward. Sylux himself just looks and moves strangely, and you will recognize many assets if you are a fan of Mega Man. I do find it admittedly charming though, I remember when romhacks appealed to me just because of that sort of referential element.

Other than the presentation, I found the game really fun. It is definitely apparent how many ways you can tackle this game even just from my single 100% run on hard mode. Upgrades feel especially well designed, there are plenty of moments that made me want to come back later. I found some parts a bit frustrating with damage output, but hard mode likely contributed to that with the lack of health comparatively. This is a hack that might be worth playing more than once to get more out of the open design.
