This hack amplifies the sense of loneliness, and eeriness of dealing with other worlds. This is one mission, Samus has to overcome an even darker realm entering Ceres's sister station. This is one station she will not forget. It will forever haunt her. My favorite thoroughly made hack.

Edit 06/2019: This hack is not for beginners as you can tell from the mediocre skilled players in this section whining about the difficulty. Super Metroid originally had Nintendo Power Game pro etc. If you need strats, be clever and check out some gameplay on youtube of this hack. But to whine about the difficulty over a hack that is not intended to be a walk in the park is pretty lame considering the effort it takes to design a large hack. Just because developer for this hack did not have your skill level or lack of dedication to learn about a game in mind, doesnt mean it deserves a poor rating. (wow now I am whining)

Great fun hack worth playing. Similar to super metroid map core paths, this is familiar and upgraded enough that it is not like playing the original.

Very tough hack. You will die. Do not forget that. The redesign of the items collected is quite memorable and very well thought out. The soundtrack selection fits very well with the concept of cubed. This is one of the most clever and unique hacks out there. While not a conventional exploration hack or outside the box (pun intended), nor is it very easy, it is definitely worth a play if you are up for the challenge. Brilliant concept

The re-instrumentation of the levels soundtracks along with a timer keeps you totally engaged. The visuals are also simple yet well done. Item grabbing is fun through out. The map is not too big, yet it is well done given the amount of time you have to finish it in. I keep playing this game over and over. One of top hacks out there.

Love the background level designs of the depths of the engineering room. Sound selection gives the station an eerie vibe even though it is well lit. A few issues, and other things worth mentioning but dont want to give out spoilers. I do wish there was a more thorough background or synospsis on this hack, and a map. Because without these suggestions, I did need a lot of youtube to follow to make it through the hack. That was not the case with other hacks. Its an older hack so difficulty is up there.

At first I wasnt ready to play such a dark hack, and it seemed a bit cryptic, but I have played this game multiple times just because of that, I grew to like eerie darkness of the game, and actually seemed like a more realistic mission just because of that. would play multiple times

I enjoyed nature quite well and eventually memorized the map! Its a large hack but not overwhelmingly large. Fun to replay and overall well done.

Nice level creation, warp zones clever idea, and speed boosting is a game changer. Fearful laboratory spooked me at first. Inconsistencies in visuals, important item placements, and route imho.

Not sure how easy or difficult it was to simply rotate a hack and do modification for 5 rooms with a tile adjusted or not so the painstaking work may not have been there. But the idea of this hack is excellent and it is very fun and workable. Just as fun and challenging as the OG. Its just so satisfying to play. Both wall jumpers and non wallies must play this hack.

Large hack and seems discouraging to have to complete it all. But as you play the levels, you feel the sense of vague linearity to the game which keeps me hooked as I continue to play the entire hack, and you dont need to look back. It is well designed might I add. Certain rooms have cryptic puzzles but not impossible. Physics have slightly changed and none are bad or annoying.

Once you obtain speed booster, it is important to master the maneuverability its new moves. Take some time to practice it before moving forward. Some hacks leave you questioning if you have unexpectedly broken sequence of the game.
In SM Ascent, if it feels like you are not in the right level due to near death, it is most likely that you must finish mining for special items. As long as you explore moderately, you will be fine. The enemy armor is more realistic than the OG. I appreciate that missiles are more damaging as they should be as opposed to beams having a higher damage priority in the original game. A pet peeve of mine is why Samus has such an advantage against enemies with her killshots as well metroids being too easy to kill (like what is the point of even creating metroids?). This game corrects that serves justice to the enemies that were once easy to kill. This helps prove Samus is the true galactic warrior.

Aesthetically, each world is well done. The theme for Ascent can be visually enjoyed in certain areas. The gradual ascension towards each realm is very satisfying play-through wise. The soundtrack is well done and I find myself commending the music as I play through the hack. The last level concept is re worked to avoid redundant final bosses in hacks so as you are near the end of the game play, it still keeps the players interest focused. And if you ask me it is brilliant.

The game is addicting, but it is not very easy. I feel you must be able to have a certain higher level of skill set to play this game. (not god level or anything, but enough) Some of the puzzles are not easy and I gave up near the end on the last few. Also there seems to be more than way to obtain an item, or to get through a certain necessary path (more than needed in my opinion, maybe to appeal to different skill levels). I feel like I over explored in some instances, and some item puzzles were pretty darn tricky so be ready. A game like this you can easily tell a lot of attention to detail was a priority. It is amazing how large of a scale it was executed in.
tldr - without a doubt... an playable, visual, and audible masterpiece of hack.

Nice oldschool hack, but very difficult to get some items so much I needed hack codes to get them because of my lack of patience for this game. My suggestion would be to question every single wall with bombs, every single.. wall.
