This hack feels rather haphazard in its execution. The graphics look quite nice and the original music is usually pretty good, but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Progression feels like something I just stumbled upon without much rhyme or reason to it: I often just happened to go the right way to find the item I needed to progress before even seeing a barrier I needed said item to get past. Individual room designs are very blocky without many slopes, which can make navigation rougher. Compounding that is how often the background and other non-solid tiles use the same color palette as the foreground, making it difficult to immediately tell what is and isn't passable.

The goal of the exploration never feels all that clear. I felt like I was wandering around aimlessly throughout the entire hack, especially near the end after I had collected all the major items. The escape is even more aimless; it doesn't lock any doors, making it easy to get lost or walk right past the intended path. You can even go back down from the top an elevator shaft that "breaks" when you initially try to go up it, forcing you to go up again and have it "break" again.

The sound design is also all over the place. The songs themselves are fine, but the hack switches between different ones so often, even songs with drastically different moods, that I feel like I'm supposed to be picking up on some story or lore thing that just isn't there. There's also the room that pauses to play a big crashing sound. It's cool the first time, but I don't think it's supposed to happen every time you enter the room.

Overall, this hack is okay, but it needs some polish and its level design leaves something to be desired.

No completion stats.
Homenag 9. Gave it an extra orb due to its original setting and biome.

A few months back, this is what I shared to Discord:

Overall was a pretty enjoyable playthrough.
Strongest point of the hack was easily the soundtrack, which had the Mentlegen dark bass vibe we all know and love.

Next strongest was the suit palettes.
In particular I really loved the palette fade for Scew Attack.

Overall, GFX was a treat and served the themes of the Starbase Contest well.
I especially loved the usage of the custom special fx. Absolutely a great touch.

---SPOILERS GET MORE FREQUENT GOING FORWARD---

I loved how the Infestation/Overgrowth theme comes into play later in the game.
Enemies were a little tanky at first, but that doesn't last too long.

The boss fight was definitely a challenge, but not in an unfair way. (Really wish there was a closer save to it though.)

Lore stations and security clearance doors were awesome.

Custom item was pretty cool (though this mad-lad didn't pick up the prerequisite item until after the custom item was obtained.)

The endgame sequence:

This I feel had some awesome things going for it, but is currently bogged down by a combination of being incomplete and a potentially iffy design choice (in my opinion.)

---(A paragraph detailing these issues is omitted to streamline this review. The concerns were directed in New Releases on Discord.)---

As is, the game is pretty fun, and I feel like it could very well be a 4 or 5 orb hack when it does end up on the main site.

I still maintain this is at least a 4 orb hack.

It could stand to iron out a few bugs but the overall game was solid and has naturally gained a significant following because of that.

Was a privilege to be part of the same contest (and a complete coincidence that we favored Black Falcon's tilesets. To the rest of the community, we didn't trade notes at any point during the contest. Lol.)

Looking forward to the next Mentlegen and dewhi100 collab.
