Description
The Space Pirates have gone on a frenzy, painting entire worlds blue. After Samus' planet was attacked, and she was scarred by the power of their blue, Samus ventures to Zebes to rid the galaxy of the scourge of the Space Pirates and their evil leader, Blaid. This hack is a demo for my next hack I am currently working on and was my submission to the Deep Blue Contest.

With thanks to everyone on the MetConst Discord who helped me with the palettes, especially Mentlegen for the suit palette, and Smiley for an enemy vulnerability hex-tweak. Also credit to squishy_ichigo's End Game BTS, his timer change hex-tweak, and Scyzer's Item Percentage Fix.

This hack was a fun little vanilla experience that is not too difficult and is well designed. It's very nice to have hacks that you can pick up and just enjoy for a little bit. The main drawback to this hack, in my opinion, is that there is extremely little exploration - the hack linear in every sense of the word. Doors lock behind you and you go through rooms in a specific order, and most items are pretty obvious (though some are more interesting to find). Not much else was changed from vanilla either (except level design, of course). The enemy and area palettes were quite nice for the most part… I can't really fault it for having an excessive amount of blue, given the theme of the contest it was entered into, but I can say that the amount of blue started to get to me at times. The pre-kraid room was really cool looking palette-wise though, and I liked it a lot.
The hack was almost entirely devoid of any sort of technical issues whatsoever from what I could see, which is great. Honestly, the only real problem with this hack is the linearity, and it's the main reason I give it 3 orbs; if that doesn't bother you, then you'll probably love the 30 or so minutes you'll spend in Bluestar.

Fun, short & linear hack. The blue hurts my eyes a little bit but it's fine overall.

Bluestar’s a fun but very short hack. I recommend checking this out and I especially recommend a low% playthrough.

It's the Pit of 25 Trials, basically. Not too much to say about this one.

Pit of 100 Trials has several adjustments that make this portion of that hack more interesting, but as a demo this is still pretty good.

The blue theming is nice, but a bit garish in a few places (as can be seen in the screenshots).

Played through this a little last night and a fair amount this morning. Was a very enjoyable quick playthrough. I'm a big fan of the Blue Brinstar tileset, so this naturally got my attention.

GFX-wise it's all pretty blue. Goes with the contest. A few earlier larger rooms gave me some serious Escape 2 vibes.

Bit of a gripe I have is the locking gray doors. Spent the first half of the game obsessively killing every enemy, only to realize this is just the intended progression. Eventually started going around many of the enemies towards the end of the game.

This was a serious matter of contention until I finally beat the hack and realized this sort of design choice is perfectly alright in a smaller hack. (And I got 100% anyway.)

The ending felt very cliff-hanger to me as there was a door beyond my grasp inviting me to go further. But alas the scene ended and faded to black. The door lives on, only in my memories...
