Description
Samus has lost her upgrades (again) after her mission on SR388. Journey with her back to Zebes to find the Infant Metroid and to recover her lost abilities. This hack takes the map of the original game and brings a new spin on what you think of as Super Metroid. Explore reimagined rooms with a new item and boss order, as well as two extra minibosses. Many quality-of-life patches and hex tweaks have been applied to make your playing experience smooth. Though for the most part as difficult as the original, there are some parts that are much more difficult. Will Samus be able to recover her upgrades, or will the universe be doomed to domination by the evil Space Pirates?

Very nicely done, there are some pleasant surprises here. Very nice rooms and pretty solid flow throughout the hack. However there are a few annoying moments (morph ball mazes, but nothing too bad), some camera issues, and a little bit too much predictability in certain places.

If I had played through the hack properly, it would have been a very easy playthrough, but the hack was willing to bend where I was trying to break it and so I had a nice challenge.

The biggest complaint I have with this hack is that it's a halfhack. Knowing the map beforehand is just not as fun as going in completely blind. That being said though, this is really strong for a halfhack.

It doesn't fall to the usual tropes you would find within this particular subset of hacks, and that is the best thing about it. It's not a hack that just wants the player to have to go the back way into everything, it allows the player freedom to go pretty much wherever they want to, and some bosses have been balanced for that.

The hack is by far the best in the small segments that have been added. Definitely wish it was more like that throughout, but this is still a solid little hack with relatively easy difficulty. Would be a nice entry type of hack to start out playing.

As a half-hack, Recovery never felt tedious or boring exploring Zebes, because most of the routes your memory relies on are unfamiliar now. Everything connected intricately and differently. Had fun playing this.

I liked it to be honest. I totaly understand the term "half-hack" on most of the areas but man Tourian was definitly clever!

The intro sequence of picking up the morph ball and bombs is laid out in a very unique way, which sets the tone for the rest of the hack. Unique, and good for the most part.
Norfair is an exception to the "good" part; doors that put Samus under lava, enemies that deal loads of damage, confusing design, the works. Not enough refill/farming spots. Still unique though, I thought it was interesting to merge upper and lower Norfair using rooms in addition to using an elevator, even if it meant the player could accidentally go to lower Norfair way earlier than they would want to.
The rest of the game is well put-together, and the Tourian is a great example of where the hack shines. Despite being a half-hack, the room design and layout is vastly different from the original game, adding a few interesting new rooms and setpieces that give it its own flair. The escape sequence was another interesting bit, since it was so different from the original. You get more than enough time though, so you won't die even if you make a few wrong turns, and the hack is better for it.

It's good. Felt like a new experience with Tourian and the areas were very well-crafted and clearly thought out very carefully. Highly recommend.

Takes what your know about Super and gives it the bird, while doing laps around you. Legit destroys most of the original layout, but in return replaces the byways and sideways you used to know. At first your jaunt ain't so troublesome: That is until you realize that about half way through, your playing an open world type Metroidvania. This caught me massively off guard, and admittedly wasn't happy with it at first. After taking the time to actually resolve the issues at hand, and doing some rather broken hi-jinx, I managed to make things work.

The one thing I will say needs a little consideration is how awkward Norfair's navigation/safety spots were very selective in choice. Plan ahead, and know that what you know means absolutely nothing until you play! In the end, after a careful look back and honest assessment; I would play again

This hack is great despite being a halfhack because it doesn't always feel like one.

The item order was very interesting. I kept wondering whether I missed an item but it actually turned out to be the final one.

Loved the QoL features like Respin and the fixed Space Jump. Always nice when hacks have those.

I also really liked what was done with Tourian and the escape was very good as well.

Well done. Recommended.

A very well made vanilla hack. It has a vanilla feel, but it's still something totally different. The route and item order was really interesting, although it was hard to tell if I was ever on the right track or sequence breaking. Tourian was pretty creative. Some good quality of life improvements. Pretty fun hack, would highly recommend.

Really good. I loved the new minibosses and how the game was more challenging without going into kaizo and spike retardation!

Good hack, but you should consider to use different tilesets in your future projects.

The game looks good, but same graphics all the time make the experience less excited.

Excellent Vanilla hack. It can be a little TOO vanilla, hence a 4, but it's a worthy playthrough.

Is a hack that I want to replay to complete 100% I like the sensation of "what if" when I play it. Friendly and challenging for beginners. A good experience for everyone.

Para ser un half-hack es excelente, creo que es como el Master Quest de Super Metroid solamente un poco más fácil y con más cambios en la ruta esto lo hace muy interesante, lo recomiendo.

Really good hack. Nice little spin on the plot, where Samus gets hit by an asteroid and loses her power ups. As this is slightly branched off from the main timeline, we don't get to go into Ceres this time, which means that Samus doesn't see Ridley capture the baby. It's essentially "What if Samus went to Zebes and not get the distress signal from Ceres?" 9.5/10

A good half-hack which brings a fresh breeze into your vanilla experience. If you know your way around zebes, it's possible to sequence break as always. Also a good choice if you're a beginner as it doesn't require any tricks!

85%, I think. I haven't beat it yet. I'm still looking for items.

Ok. This hack reestablished my FAITH in Super Metroid Hacks. (Well, Some of them anyway)
This hack was a challenge but not a {"FUK THIS SHIT!!!"}, throw your controller on the floor hack.
There was quite a bit of back and forth. But that's why it's called Super Metroid. In other words, Super (Back and Forth) Troid. HA-HA-HA. Good job MetroidNerd#9001! Let's See MORE!

Pretty alright for a half hack, although it did pick up several jokes from the boys about how it was actually a quarter hack (complete with Tourian and escape DLC). The biggest problem with this hack was that the path to grapple beam was not obvious (played on version 1.2). I ended up wandering around for far too long discovering that every single route through Norfair required grapple and I ended up grabbing Wave before returning to find that there were actually two crumble blocks that revealed the route to grapple where previously I only found one. I can also think of a few permastuck scenarios in Maridia if you managed to sidestep spring ball. My final question is, why can't Samus just leave after recovering all of her items?

This is a halfhack alright, but it's definitely not like other halfhacks. This one has real quality in it. Gameplay is solid, and while the general map is just like vanilla, the way rooms have been changed and the world has been organized really makes it a nice, new experience. The negative tho is the fact that progression wasn't really obvious in some places (i didn't find the crumble blocks to grapple at first, but maybe that's just me). Tourian was also very nice.
A solid 4/5 orbs, give this one ago
Also, animals saved

I had a lot of fun with this one.
It's designed around the halfhack gimmick in a very clever way, every area feels familiar but forces you to look for new paths so the progression is really refreshing and never gets boring or lazy.
The level design is very good in general, and Tourian and escape sequence were particulary great.
There are a few minor issues though,
Some rooms where you need grapple were very annoying,
I managed to beat Botwoon without Gravity but I got stuck in the sand a few screens later, I felt I shouldn't be allowed to go that far.

This one takes me back to the early days of SM hacking - when building on top of the vanilla map was a common approach - but definitely takes it up a notch or two. It's not perfect; a little too reliant on tanky space pirates and the first hour or so is kind of an underpowered slog, but it opens up nicely after Grapple. By the end I found myself quite impressed with how the vanilla map was being reinterpreted - at certain points I almost forgot I was playing a halfhack, and Tourain and the escape sequence were nice surprises. Give this a go if you're an old-schooler, or if you like a double shot of vanilla in your hacks.

this hack has some cool ideas. tourian is neat. never found plasma. did some suitless maridia including getting one item early but it didn't amount to much. it definitely felt like maridia was designed to be done suitless. if you can double spring ball jump, you could probably kill draygon early. i get the feeling that multiple progression paths are possible; i found my first power bomb pack about halfway thru (didn't discover it until later but it was accessible earlier).

This hack had me saying "oh that's neat" pretty much every single room --- just lots of interesting, neat decisions and divergences from the original game's room design at pretty much every point. That's about as much as I can ask for from a half-hack, to be honest.

There are a couple rooms with suspect enemy placement (and possibly just a few too many ninja pirates), but overall the level design is very meticulous and well-considered, both on a macro and a micro scale. Traversal is a bit more frictive than the vanilla game, but it never becomes laborious like a bad half-hack would.

Overall, I would say that this is the best hack released by MetroidNerd so far --- though that's more by reason of its genre and scope than anything else. Pit of 100 Trials is a neat gimmick, and Hotlands is a fun-sized snack, but Recovery is (despite being a half-hack) a full-sized meal.

Seeing how MNerd's craft has improved over time, I can't wait to see him cook up another hack of this scope. #QuarryHypeSquad

pretty awesome for a halfhack tbh, Tourian was personally my favorite area in this hack.. I also like this hack because it isn't too hard or too easy and the difficulty isn't spiked like or irregular/erratic like with most hacks, but I think the difficulty is more or less the same as SM.. but nonetheless, it's a fun and neat little hack worthy of a playthrough... 10/10 would recommend

I see people refer to this as a "half-hack."
While that may be true in a few places in the game, this gets close to Familiar or Z Factor territory 80% of the time. A bit hard to categorize this, but it feels more at home alongside Reimagined or Legacy than other "half-hacks," (though it isn't as large as those games.)

Even though this was his first hack, MetroidNerd #9001 packed a lot of polish into this one. As far as I know, this is actually longer than any of his later hacks.
Took me a good while to finish it.

Maridia, Norfair, and Tourian probably contained the most unique content. I found myself so mesmerized by the new routes and rooms that the few areas that remained which were not changed from Vanilla broke the feeling of immersion a little bit. But to be fair, this is fitting with the theme of Samus returning to Zebes to get her stuff back.

The tiling was beautiful. MetroidNerd#9001 used Vanilla assets in a tasteful manner that was up there with Axeil Edition in many rooms, especially in Maridia.

Even this early on, MetroidNerd#9001 demonstrated proficiency with custom events and room states. The staple mini-bosses are here. Definitely a lot of heart went into this.

I think the bosses and mini-bosses HP was buffed a little on the high side.

The Tourian escape is one of the most memorable I have encountered. Definitely fresh and creative. Pacing was fair yet appropriately challenging.

A nice interplay between the familiar and the unexpected. Not too challenging, but got me itching for a second try.
