I have no idea how beatable this is, because I can't make it past the 4th room.
We have no idea who made this hack. Apparently it was some Portuguese person... This hack offends every one of your hacking senses. Literally every single one of them will be offended. You are not prepared for what you're about to see.

I recommend this hack to anyone who wants to make a hack, in the hope that they will take away from it every single thing you should not do while hacking. This hack contains literally every problem. It will offend all of your senses. You need to play this at least once before you start hacking, and learn everything that you should not do.

I'd rather play Metroid: Other M than play this hack ever again. I urge you to never download this hack because there are better hacks on the Metroid Construction forum and this is definitely not one of them. You know what? This is good in its own little way. It's good because it shows those who want to make hacks how not to make a Super Metroid hack. Don't do it how this guy did it.

1/5. Whoever made the Cristener Homenag trilogy of hacks need to stop. -_-

Animals saved.

Quick Summary of the meaning of my SM hack ratings:
5 orbs: SM hacks within the 80% to 100% (90% ± 10%) range of perceived perfection; SM hacks for outstanding wholesome playing experiences and at most minor inconveniences.
4 orbs: SM hacks within the 60% to 80% (70% ± 10%) range of perceived perfection; Well done SM hacks with noticeable design problems.
3 orbs: SM hacks within the 40% to 60% (50% ± 10%) range of perceived perfection; Normal decent average SM hacks.
2 orbs: SM hacks within the 20% to 40% (30% ± 10%) range of perceived perfection; Overall messy, confusing, or punishing SM hacks with some upsides.
1 orb : SM hacks within the 00% to 20% (10% ± 10%) range of perceived perfection; Ruthlessly unplayable, broken, or barely from the original game changed SM hacks.

Judgement parameters summary:
° Creative ideas and features, polished design, how enjoyable and fun the hack can be, lack of hard to find or cryptic required game elements, the difficulty, and if the hack can be finished without major guides or tools.
° Note that the length of a SM hack will not necessarily contribute to my rating of the SM hack, since instead the averaged out experience over the whole hack will be taken into account to get a relative comparison between SM hacks.
° Besides this, lack of impactful changes from the original SM game also went into the evaluation of SM hacks (otherwise one may consider them among the 3 stars hacks) as follows: Ultimately, for my ratings I consider a situation in which an SM enthusiast that already has, knows about and is familiar with the original game and its prominent mechanics could only choose 1 new SM hack to play and thus would really want to make sure he/she will get a fresh and fantastic experience or journey out of his/her 1 choice.

The goal of all these SM hack ratings is so that rather new players have an overview of the whole spectrum of SM hacks and how to sort them in, in relation to each other, where SM hacks that are rated lower might still be enjoyable for more experienced players.

Finally, sometimes for SM hacks it can be relevant that they may be significantly more enjoyable from a player standpoint at which the player is well practiced and familiarized with Super Metroid's game mechanics in general, and that in particular some of the best SM hacks may not be the outright best first SM hack choices to play otherwise because of this, and for beginner SM hack players this typically steers the best first SM hack choices towards some of the SM hacks that I rated with 4 orbs instead of 5.

Rating for some hacks may be off by 1 Star, but arguably not more, and ratings are not attempted to be provided within the precision of ''half orbs''.

This hack is the perfect hack, playing it connects you with the Homenag, and being Homenag gets you all the street cred and skills. If you don't like this hack, your opinions are wrong.

I downloaded this hack expecting it to be the unholy abomination it has become famous as. Instead, I found a fairly typical half-hack.

Yes, the Samus palettes are ridiculous. Yes, Red Crateria. Yes, the start of the game is a pain. But if you keep playing, you'll find that it's an ordinary half-hack that doesn't really challenge you so much during the main game and that changes things around either in interesting or stupid ways. The route is interesting. There's no heat run. There's very little suitless underwater. Most enemies and bosses haven't had their damages changed. While there are spikes, they're only in certain spots intended to be slightly harder. So, just an ordinary old non-challenge half-hack. There are far, **far** worse half-hacks out there. This isn't much harder than the original game either.

Except the bosses and minibosses. **Those** have been changed in particularly dumb ways. Special credit goes to Kraid (which spikes all but one tile's worth of what would normally be safe spaces) and Crocomire (which spikes the floor with only one safe spot that I couldn't get to work right anyway). Draygon and Ridley also have... interesting changes. The game gets truly hard for the boss and miniboss fights only. (And Tourian is almost completely unchanged, so you don't have to worry about Mother Brain.)

The real kicker is the start of the game, where some (but not all) things should be made slightly more obvious to avoid the frustration some of the other users felt. Spoiler: you get Morphing Ball in Red Brinstar's rightmost shaft, then go back up by shooing a bunch of shot blocks in the Maridia back door to get out. Shoot the Chozo Statue near the ship and morph through to get to the door into the Main Street. Head to Bomb Torizo and grab Super Missiles there, being careful with the Giant Sidehopper (I'll get to Sidehoppers in a bit). Get out of the Bomb Torizo area by shooting up next to the right side of the hill to reveal some shot blocks. Get to the diagonal hallway with an Energy Tank by shooting the blocks in the way with Super Missiles (two are needed). Smooth sailing from here. Explore a bit in Green Brinstar, making sure to get Power Bombs from the Etecoons (the Power Bomb floor is now shot blocks). Green Brinstar is lined with fake pipes; the hint to get to Pink Brinstar is that one pipe is longer. Shoot a Super Missile in that pipe and morph into the hole to enter Pink Brinstar. Once in the main Pink Brinstar room, head to the Spore Spawn skip; you'll see the path clear. Grab X-Ray Scope from there, and you should be good to go for the rest of the game.

A lot of frustration could have been saved by making some of the special blocks visible from the start; for instance, the Super Missile blocks in Main Street. That X-Ray Scope is available so soon keeps the frustration short, at least.

Some more observations:

Two enemies that have been changed are Sidehoppers and Giant Sidehoppers. Regular Sidehoppers now require the equivalent of 5 Super Missiles to kill. Giant Sidehoppers now require the equivalent of 2 Super Missiles to kill and deal much less damage to you. This is probably the most random change in the entire hack. Of course, it also makes regular Sidehoppers very annoying to kill, especially once you get all the beams (since just one charged shot still isn't enough).

The placement of both Gravity Suit and Bombs are **really** interesting.

Some special rooms have had their design changed completely. Of particular note are the Energy Refill near Crocomire and the Save Station near Botwoon, which I think look interesting.

Only one item requires any special trick: the Super Missile in the big room in Maridia requires a shorter Shinespark charge than usual, possibly shorter than the ordinary Short Charge. The first Tourian room also requires such a charge to get out, but you have somewhat more room.

Black Brinstar is probably the stupidest room change in terms of difficulty. The description above says to collect 3 energy tanks before going in, but you can only get 2 without glitches. The reason is that the two lowest rooms (the one with the Skrees and the one next to Spazer) now have acid in them **right at ground level**, so you will be damaged in those rooms.

You'll either need Spring Ball or Gravity Suit to get Speed Booster. Spring Ball was moved; Grappling Beam is now in its place (if you wonder where it is, especially since you'll need it to get into Lower Norfair). Also once you get Grappling Beam, pay attention when coming back out, as the door connections have been changed. Don't go into the room next to where you go in to get Grappling Beam; the scroll will corrupt.

Draygon's boss room has a morph ball maze filling it. This makes what happens when Draygon gets you a bit more frustrating, but it *is* a unique take on the fight...

In the vertical shaft on the way to Ridley with the red Ki Hunters and the Save Station next to it, I somehow managed to get two red Ki Hunters to circle around each other while I was crouched next to them. Nothing specific to the hack, just an interesting thing that happened once =P

The escape is rather tight; you'll need to find some shot blocks in the big Tourian room if you want to escape. I have no idea how Aran;Jaeger managed to save the animals; I'll have to find that out.

Item totals are identical to vanilla, except one Missile Pack has been replaced with an Energy Tank. (Though I now see Aran;Jaeger also got 101%, so I'll have to watch to see what item I missed...).

So... no, it's not the most horrible hack ever made; it's just another vanilla-level half-hack that just became memetic. I didn't hate it (I'd probably rate it 2.5 stars, maybe, if I could...). And while there are definitely a number of things, many of which I mentioned above, that new hackers should not do, there are also some interesting things to see here (including a few I may have forgotten by now or didn't mention). **And** I have played worse: at no point did I ever give up and use cheats, which is more than I could say for some other half-hacks on here. Therefore... *shrug*.

The badness of this hack is overrated. There are only two spots that I think are particularly dumb: one in the LN pillar room, and one in the escape. Other than that, this hack has some hilariously silly moments and reasonably challenging boss fights. The puzzle design is a little weak, relying more on guessing than observation, especially before you find X-Ray (which is thankfully in a prominent location.)

There are a number of softlocks and surprise hazards. Be careful playing through the game, and be sure to save often.

Overall not great, but not terrible.

Not as bad as I heard.

It's not pretty for the most part, but it does have some nice looking parts.

There are softlocks. Never lost much progress to them.
One door near shaktool had broken scrolls but it fixed itself by going back.

Doing sand halls suitless was somewhat painful, but at least I learned how to get out of sand(sometimes). Plus, I'm not even certain if gravity was Draygon locked or if it was Botwoon and I could have had a suit by then.

Was really surprised to see that some bosses were nerfed by room changes(gt, phantoon and maybe ridley too). Kraid wasn't too bad as soon as I remembered facetanking. Draygon was weird, room changes gave you plenty of safe spots, and you can sill grapple kill him.

I think trick to Aqueduct was clever, but maybe that's just because I figured it out quickly.

Really glad this hack wasn't stingy with resources, had plenty of etanks and supers/pbs by midpoint.

Giving this two orbs, but if softlocks were fixed(although how you'd fix many many grapple related softlocks is beyond me) it would have been a three.

The worst offender is how low effort this hack truly is. Many rooms are not changed and when they are, it's pretty dumb, lazy and often awful. Don't waste your time playing this.

0 out of 10. Don't play this hack. Rooms are either cryptic, lazy, unnecessarily changed to be bullshit, or- No, it's all of the above with this this hack. It feels wildly incomplete, and isn't fun to go through at all.

there's nothin good that can be said about this hack other than it could be worse.. it's not as bad as everyone says it is but it's still pretty bad. item progression and progression in general is just stupid.. I got halfway then stopped and quit after defeating phantoon because it's just not worth playing. DON'T PLAY THIS UNLESS YOU HATE YOURSELF!!

rounded down from 2.5 orbs (40% perceived perfection)

this is: a somewhat challenging, absurd, strange, and frustrating half-hack, but i still had some sort of fun.

The beginning is quite cryptic and bad. That happens mostly because you don't have Bombs, so you have to go pixel hunting. Fortunately the pedro-tier of terrible stuff it's almost done at the beginning, because you get X-Ray soon.

3 interesting things. You NEED Grapple to beat the game. I'm pretty sure Spring Ball is also mandatory (but you get it early, and I like it, so it's not a 1* by default for me), and there's some invisible enemies in the hack. I found some in Maridia, and they died only with a full Charged Plasma shot. In Tourian, I guess it was a different one, because Charged didn't do anything, but regular shot killed it? Also be sure to have at least 1 Reserve Tank or that you know how to do Baby Skip.

Interesting Item placement and progression order. In some times I was ready to rage that some item was moved, but looking better or exploring more I found it in a odd or funny location. Seeing even some considered high tier hacks by the community sometimes made me rage or get very annoyed or bored, seeing a ground level half-hack giving me fun and chuckle here and there was worth it.

It is good? Most of the time, not. There's a bunch of permastucks and out of bounds moments, so I can't give this anything more than 2 stars. 2.5 would be very very generous. At least it's much better than the troll hacks and seemingly impossible stuff. Had more fun with this than SMI :P

It's a half-hack with most rooms being the same or having uglier designs. Some recolors are good, so it's a shame the author didn't do more of that. The difficulty is above Vanilla for sure, with some bosses dealing E-tanks of damage on contact, some BS during the escape (not Mission Rescue tier of BS, but still not trivial). I managed to escape on the second try, but was out of time to save the animals. Maybe if you're a pro gamer at this like Oatsngoats it is possible to save the animals without too much stress.

I expected a shit hack, but seeing it didn't rely too much on spikes or BS moments, it could be worse. If you want to create hacks, play this, because there's a bunch of stuff here that you should not do, but it also will be very educative in others. Some recolors are good (the suits are bad), how changing item progression makes it less boring than the regular vanilla/linear hacks out there, how you can create spots with increased difficulty without being impossible (aside some BS moments other reviewers and myself talked earlier). If you want to play a half-hack that feels from before the 2010's with higher, but not impossible difficulty you could play this, but there's better hacks for you to play first imo.
